3rd Grade has hit the ground running! Many pre assessments are behind us in Reading, Writing, and Math so we can dive into Science and Social Studies!
In Science, we will begin the year learning about fossils, animal survival, and heredity. Students will learn how animals and their environments change through time. Fossils provide us with a window into the animals and habitats of the past. Analyzing the traits of animals provides evidence for how those traits vary, how they are inherited, and how they have changed over time. Students will also look at how the environment can affect inherited traits and determine which animals will survive in a particular environment.
In Social Studies, we will begin the year learning about the geography of the world. Students will learn about major landforms and physical features in California. They will also see how geography affects the development of a community.
The students are excited about our classroom saint, Saint Mother Teresa, who was a Catholic nun and missionary who dedicated her life to caring for the destitute and dying in the slums of Calcutta. Saint Mother Teresa was an amazing humanitarian and advocate for the poor. 3rd Grade looks forward to learning more about her throughout the year!
